Final Excursion: Albright-Knox Art Gallery

Hello all,

We'll finish up our filed trips together with the old grand-daddy of all art institutions in our region, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. (See website for address, etc.) We'll meet at our usual time, 3pm. If you're running late, come anyway. Friday, May 10th is the date.

I don't have a particular tour planned, so if you do arrive late keep an eye out for me and your classmates. To structure things a bit, I was thinking that we could have a specific agenda while looking at the collection: find and select one work that you really like, and find one you don't. Note the title and artist for each and share with the class. Also, I will ask that you return to one artwork that you initially breezed by – didn't notice, wasn't interested in, whatever. Spend at least five minutes with it. Think about why you didn't pay any attention to it at first. What do you see now? Has your feeling about it changed? As always, note the title and date of the work and who made it.

There is an admission fee of $8 for students (bring your ID!, and yes, they accept credit cards), and parking in the lot is $5. Bring your parking ticket to get validated at the front desk. You may be able to find some free parking around the back near the park, but it's usually pretty packed.

There are several exhibitions open in addition to the regular permanent collection displayed (though this changes over time, too).

In addition to the "regular" stuff on display, we'll also be looking at Agnes Martin, a minimalist abstract painter;
