Excursion #3, Buffalo Arts Studio (BAS)

Excursion #3: Buffalo Arts Studio
BAS is located in the Tri-Main Center:
2495 Main Street, Suite 500, Buffalo, NY 14214
(716) 833-4450
Time: 3pm
Cost: $5

On Friday, March 15th, we'll have our third excursion together. Please meet directly at the venue, DO NOT go to the classroom. The meeting time will be our usual 3pm. Buffalo Arts Studio is located on the 5th floor of the Tri-Main building. The entrance is in the back, as is parking – you'll likely have to park on one of the side streets surrounding the area, so give yourself time for that.

We will be given a tour of the facilities, including the galleries, by Artistic Director Cori Wolff. The artists who we'll be looking at are:

Andrzej Maciejewski: Garden of Eden
Lynn Richardson: Inter-Glacial Free Trade Agency

Take a look at their websites and do your own research beyond that if you like. Cori should be able to answer questions you have about the work. In addition to thinking about the individual artists' work, consider how Cori curated these shows together. What sort of considerations do you think she made when she chose them? What similarities do you see among the work? What's different?

Elizabeth Leader, Eastside 1047, 2012

In addition, after our tour of BAS, we will be visiting an individual artist's studio right across the hall. Elizabeth Leader works in various media and her subject matter often deals with environmental issues as well as that of urban decay and personal histories. You can visit her website here to familiarize yourself with her work and come prepared with any questions you may have for her! Betty is opening her studio to us out of the kindness of her heart (and appreciation for students of art!), and there is no charge for that part of the field trip. It should go without saying that you should please show Betty your utmost respect and attention.

As always, if it looks like you're going to have transportation issues, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can try to work something out. Remember, ultimately it is YOUR responsibility to get to the required location on time.
