I wanted to check in with everyone regardless. I hope that those of you who attended the field trip at the Western New York Book Arts Center (WNYBAC) last week enjoyed it! Our guide Chris Fritton was telling us about the exhibition of his work that will be showing there, among many other things. If you click here, you can view the WNYBAC e-newsletter that has all the information about opening night and more! It's going to be an amazing show, not to be missed. The newsletter also includes information about other related upcoming events, like the Buffalo Small Press Book Fair (founded and run by Chris!) and the Edible Book Festival (what???).
I'll remind you of these events as they come closer. Chris's opening is next Friday, March 15th, so you could pop on over to WNYBAC after our visit to the Buffalo Arts Studio!
As a special treat, we will also be visiting artist Elizabeth Leader, whose studio is right across the hall from BAS. I will post all details about our next meeting's field trip in the coming week with a separate post.
Before I sign off, another gentle reminder to get going on your blogs and collection project! Remember, you should have at least 10 "regular" posts relating to class experiences and/or your own research, and 10 collection posts. To be counted fully, a post should have at least 300 words; shorter that that will receive partial credit (i.e. may be counted as half a post). Generally you should include images as well! Keep in mind that I am submitting mid-term grades, and the blogs are really all I have to go on. If you are not caught up, it will reflect in your mid-term grade.
Finally, in recognition of International Women's Day (it's today!), a few articles about women artists for you to peruse. Despite the strides we have taken towards women's equality in society, there is still a long way to go. So too, in the art world... sadly, men's work still dominates in museums and in galleries.
