Hello class,
On our next in-class meeting this Friday, I will continue what has turned into our very own film series with a documentary about artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Basquiat rose out of the street art movement in the 1970s and 80s New York City to become the darling of the downtown art gallery scene.
It's a great story and the film, Radiant Child, is compelling, told from the viewpoint of a friend, director Tamra Davis.
In other news, here's a shortlist of art events coming up this weekend.
Ani Hoover's Stick/Stack at Canisius College, opening this Friday, 4/19. Reception 5-7pm.
Americana: Stamp Designs by Jenna Hutzler at 464 Gallery, opening this Saturday, 4/20. Reception 7-10pm.

While this may be overkill, I want to yet again remind you that your blog comprises a large portion of your grade. A few of you have been keeping up with it pretty well, but others... not so much. Remember, you should have a total of 24 substantive blog posts by the end of the semester: 12 that are based on our classroom meetings and excursions, and/or of your own research and interests related to the course. The other 12 should be posts showing us works that you've selected to include in your own virtual art collection.
You are aiming for at least 300 words per post, and they should be thoughtful and well-written.
See you at 3pm sharp on Friday!

ReplyDeleteAlec,
